I don't think it is a unique quality of the Russian elite at all, but a global human characteristic:

"A unique quality of the Russian elite is that it not only refuses to admit its mistakes, but also does not wish to be aware of the existence of objective problems (particularly those problems generated by its own actions). Instead of recognizing problems, the authorities only see threats, and they react to these threats in only one of two ways - by either lying on TV, or repression. The one, of course, is inseparable from the other."

The author suggests that the Ukraine war was a trap. If true, what was its nature and how would Russia have avoided it?

The US response to the Cuban missile crisis was swift and severe. Yet after decades of NATO (a hostile military organization) encroachment, Russia only uses diplomacy. Even after the 2014 coup in Ukraine, whose purpose was to continue NATO's advance, Russia continued to use diplomacy.

So this trap: was it not acting earlier? Was it failing to accept a hostile military force on your border? Was it not resisting the calls for help from the persecuted ethnic Russians in the donbas?

Educate me.

Decisions may result from the Russia-Africa summit that accelerate Putin's exit. While Russian embassies in the Global South show the film "Battle for Africa" leaders in Africa are looking for solutions to the problem of feeding their people. https://www.tbsnews.net/economy/corporates/screening-battle-africa-russian-embassy-666638.

The thought that bombing granaries full of grain that could go Africa cannot be explained. The Putin regime may claim that the Grain deal did not meet Russia's requirements to export its own grain and fertilizer. If that were a concern why bomb? Clearly the intent is to destroy the competitor while driving up the price in world markets. That is gangster behavior, not the actions of an anti-imperialist defender of socialist values.

If you substitute "USA" for "Russia" and the current president for "Putin" this article still makes perfect sense.

It is my fervent hope that this article--in the original Russian--may help awaken and invigorate a long too dormant and acquiescent Left (CPRF & others) inside Russia to openly oppose Putin's war--er, the "Special Military Operation"--and his kleptocratic state.

What you describe is very similar to what we see in the Republican Party in the US and, more and more among Democratic demagogic politicians like Robert Kennedy Junior. Denying uttering public statements recorded just days before like that COVID has much less effect on Chinese and Jews. Not only a lie but lying about having said it. I am not quoting any Republicans, just read any average tweet or "truth" from Trump. I often wonder if the Kremlin and the GOP are attending the same classes on disinformation and misinformation propaganda. They certainly sound similar.
